ROTTO
There’s something quietly magnetic about the Rottnest Island settlement — those weathered ochre buildings, the deep shade cast by old fig trees and Rottnest pines, and just beyond, a glimpse of turquoise sea.
In this series, I’ve tried to hold that feeling. The stillness, the weight of history, and the dreamy familiarity that so many West Australians carry in their memory of Rotto.
It’s not just the beauty — it’s the layered mood of the place. Buildings bleached by time. Light bouncing off sand. Paths worn smooth by generations of bare feet. These paintings are my response to those moments where land, architecture, and emotion quietly converge.
This work is part of the Ocean theme for our upcoming exhibition STRONGER TOGETHER with @catherinemeadsartist and @heatherelliottsmith.
