This diptych captures the powerful transformation of the landscape in the South West of Western Australia after a bushfire. Painted in acrylics and mixed media with palette knife and mark-making tools, the work reflects the raw contrasts found in nature’s cycle. Fresh green shoots emerge against the stark blackened trunks, while dried foliage reveals unexpected beauty in its rich, earthy tones.

Renewal speaks to the duality of destruction and rebirth — the harshness of fire alongside the resilience and persistence of life. It is a meditation on fragility, endurance, and the unstoppable spirit of renewal that follows even the most devastating loss.

Renewal will be on show in Bunbury’s newest art gallery, 37 Spencer in February. It will form part of the group exhibition STRONGER TOGETHER that I share with artists Heather Elliott-Smith and Catherine Meads.
