Ascending

$800.00

The painting came about from a chance viewing of drone footage produced for a local winery in the Ferguson Valley. It was one of those images that took my breath away.  I knew I had to capture it in on canvas. I started by thinking I would paint it as true to the original image as possible.  The painting, however, had a mind of its own and took me in quite a different direction. A soring bird and wispy clouds began to appear, floating over a soft and richly textured landscape. The artist, like the bird, rode out the thermals never being completely in control.

The title came as a suggestion from a friend. She said the painting reminded her of Vaugh William’s haunting and majestic The Lark Ascending. And so, I present to you Ascending.
